Japanese Soba in Gobo (牛蒡) Soup
This is a simple dish. Suitable for people of all ages. It might be a bit bland in taste as it is plain. All natural flavours. You might want to give it a try if you’re always eating out, eating lots of flavourings such as MSG.
Ingredients:
- 2 Eggs
- 2 bowls water (1 more bowl if not using slow cooker)
- 6-10 Filament Sticks (fake crab meat)
- Japanese Soba (plain / flavoured) (amount to serve 2)
- Salt
- 2 Carrots
- section of Gobo (牛蒡)
Method:
- Clean & peel off the skins of the gobos. Break / cut into shorter sizes.
- Heat water in a soup pot until boiling.
- Add the gobos into the boiled water.
- Clean, peel off the skin & cut carrot into bite size. Put all into the soup pot.
- Boil at least 3 hours ahead (low heat)
- You may add in additional herbs if you want to.
- When the soup is almost done, add salt to taste.
- Heat water in another pot /pan until boiling.
- Cook the noodles until soften. Remove. Run through cold water (if you like). Set aside.
- Clean the filament stick and cook a while in the hot water to get them cooked. Remove. Set aside.
- Hard boiled 2 eggs. Remove. Remove shells. Set aside.
- Put the noodles, egg & filament sticks into a bowl. Then add the soup & serve hot.
Note:
- If you think that this recipe is really tasteless, you can add in your flavourings to make it better.
- Advisable, for those who don’t know how to boil soup using soup pot / any pot, PLEASE use slow cooker & boil over night.
